Hi John and Cat. What’s impressive is the way the share John. I think the girls were interested because they already had a great one. I think the boys like because they didn’t have the great one On offer. I think the object laying out is more interesting to them. But the first one is the way to go.

When se got Carmella Alpaca a lawn sprinkler she laid down on it and broke it. We had to spray her with the hose four times a day. She would plop down in the mud, lift her butt up a little, and twitch it at me. All we needed was a band playing "The Stripper". She would come running humming loudly and happily. Alas, she died at the start of sprinkling season. Dolly Llama wants nothing to do with sprinkling. She does not feel the heat as much.

That looks like it is perfect, but are their hooves sharp enough to put holes in it? This is a perfect solution to the alpacas need to put feet in water because on most farms I watch, they step in water troughs which make the water dirty to drink so lots of dumping and cleaning out. Plus this serves several at the same time. The first splash pad seems to be best. Good idea.

Kevin & Cookie, love Cookie's face. Carl & Brownie, she's got beautiful, expressive eyes. Felix- oh-my-heart, not a baby anymore & Fake Petal; top three pairings. Macey dear, you look lovely as Grande Dame. You'll always be my favorite😉👍

Maycee is definitely one of our favorites too! But a "real" alpaca farm wasn't able to get her pregnant so I don't think we will be able to either. I can't wait to see Felix babies. 🤞🤞 2025!

Here's hoping they all criate (unpack) successfully and you can sell them all. I had friends in the puppy business; one litter of a dozen may take a long time to sell. The price falls off as the cute wears off.

I've been raising alpacas for 27 years and it's always been said that you can have up to 10 alpacas per acre of good pasture...that's the number that is easy to manage without over grazing and concentrating parasites.. Manure should be cleaned up daily. They do rub on fences, so a sturdy 4 to 5 foot no-climb fencing. Yes, three feel more like a herd as well...instead of two just reading of of each other. Never keep males (even geldings) with females...Alpacas mate with the male's penis inside the uterus and so over breeding can cause a major uterine infection rather easily. All alpaca fiber is wonderful and has application. Huacayas and suris should not be crossed as it creates low quality fiber in the offspring. Second cutting orchard grass (leafy...they will not eat stems) and a quality pelleted supplement formulated for alpacas is needed to meet their nutritional requirements along with as much fresh pasture as possible. Important...Rotate the group / herd on to rested pasture for parasite control and grass regrowth. Alpacas are parasite sensitive so stay on top of parasite control (fecal testing, proper dosing, rotate herd every 2-4 weeks, etc). Watch out for Meningeal worm, Mysoplasma haemolama, coccidia species and resistant strongyles (Barber pole worm)...those are the biggies and hope that one animal doesn't get 2 or more of these problems which are all treatable and controllable. (It's not hard, just know what to use for each and have dewormers and meds on hand at the farm.) For more alpacas, use a snow shovel and plastic leaf rake. Alpaca manure is one of the best manures and it will make your plants do the unbelievable without tasting like fertilizer...use it and sell it. Meningeal worm is in certain areas. It affects the nervous system and can be treated if caught early and treated properly. Observation is key, so you know each animal well and if they ever start to act off, you'll now. Always act asap when an animal acts off...they hide discomfort well and so could have been sick for a while before they show you something isn't right. Schedule shearing in January, or sooner. Alpacas are also easy to halter train by doing each step incrementally and giving the alpaca a few minutes to understand each new expectation. I can get most walking on a lead in 10 to 20 minutes. Shearing is best done by at least two people and with laying the alpaca down and carefully stretching it out with soft, thick ropes (first attach ropes to lower legs...not pasterns...then pull ropes while the other person gently lays their head on the ground). They are a two-coated species and have been bred for fleece uniformity, density and fineness. Their drapey, supple fiber has scales that lay flat which creates exceptional softness, warmth and luster / brightness...that's what makes it the best!

Hi John and Cat. Roasted peanut is looking great. Hay John strangely gardens normally are full of stuff hehe including weeds. The rises look great. Rows would make it easier for you to know for sure what a weed and what’s a plant. The purple iris is gorgeous. The wood chips will give it a nice fresh look and reduce the weeds. It should look great once done.

I noticed a little stumbling, bumbling and general lack of enthusiasm by John, alpacas, except Brownie and dogs until; the wood chips got mentioned. Then pace picked up considerably. Cat you're a saint, I would've kicked them all out of the video. My mom would've kicked _me_ out of the video and been out at the crack of dawn, with hot black coffee; weeding til the sun was too hot. 😅

If any of our alpaca need tooth trimming our shearer does that while shearing for no additional cost. All shearers may not be the same in that aspect but we have never needed additional dental care beyond that.

Watched several videos before I came across yours. The first guy wanted me to remove the entire mowing deck. After watching that one, I figured I would need to haul it in to a professional. Then there was a gal who didn’t need to remove the entire deck. That sounded good! Unfortunately, her video quality was poor and she wasn’t clear about the work involved or tools required. Also, her tractor did not have pulley covers (which it turns out had to be painstakingly removed). So, I continued searching UA-cam for the holy grail of mower deck belt replacement videos and came across yours. It is understandable and detailed! With confidence, I completed the job in about 30 minutes. You probably saved me a few hundred bucks and a lot of hassle. Well done and thank you!
